A Table Fallen Over
Starting to learn Hiragana by reading together, EM cracks me up when I ask him what に (ni) is and he tells me it’s a table that has fallen over.
I can see it now but had never thought about it looking like just that before.

Do you think he learned that in school as a way to remember it? Or did he make it up himself? It’s very clever, either way.

No they were not close to teaching his class to read at all yet - he did it all himself.
I admit I’m pretty proud of him that he can read the alphabet and can recognize some English word shapes already (he can pick out his name and Yoshi’s, Mason’s and my internet handles from Skype contact lists and so on).
So starting Hiragana seems like a natural move while he doesn’t realize it’s actually study and more fun. Can’t wait to see what else he manages to come up with!
