New Wrap
I’d been wrapping and wearing Squigs for a while now, using a DIY wrap made from black jersey - but he started to a bit too heavy for it and it wasn’t as secure as before and needed readjusting much too often. So after much research and deliberation I decided to go for a Didymos wrap and chose the katja pattern - mainly because I liked how the colours tonally blended in through the weaving.
I contacted Didymos Japan to ask them about sizing as the Japanese website said they have 4 and 5 - but I wanted a 6 to make sure we had enough length to do all the cross wrap carries - because Elliot Mason didn’t get nicknames like Squigs and Riot for being a calm baby. Well the email exchange went down in English - and I got the wrap the day after I ordered it. Came in perfect condition - with a step by step instruction book in English and a DVD. I was pretty impressed.
Didymos is a German company - and they explain why their wraps sell at a higher cost than one would expect a piece of fabric to sell normally on the main site. I thought it made for an interesting look at a specialist company that refuses to outsource to a “cheaper” country (for many reasons listed), instead using time intensive processes to produce a better quality item.
Our wrap has certainly attracted a lot of attention in our neighbourhood where onbu is common, but strollers and just carrying are the norm. It certainly is warmer having a baby strapped to you under a coat though - for both of us.
Now I just need to work out how to get him to stop pulling out the hairs at the back of my neck…
